How to Pose Every Step of the Way!

One of the biggest reasons why people don’t like to have their photo taken is because they feel awkward and uncomfortable when posing.

Having a stranger take your photo can make you feel anxious and self-conscious...and this WILL show through in your photos! That’s why I take the time to make my clients feel comfortable and relaxed on set.

When you come into my studio for your headshots, you’ll feel like you’re working with a good friend who is going to make every effort to make you look amazing.

The session will be like crash course in "How to Pose for Photographs".  You will use the lessons you learn in our session long after the session is over.  Even your selfies will improve as your incorporate what you've learned.  We will focus on 2 main areas -eyes and mouth.    I will show you how to use your eyes to convey confidence and how to use your mouth to convey approachability.  The goal is to capture you in your best moment.  (We will also work on a 3rd element that is very subtle.  It is this aspect that ads a bit of mystery to your portrait!)

Your photography session with be an experience you will find both informative and productive.  Not only will we give you  amazing headshots but we will also give you the skills you need to have better photos taken anywhere!

How the Headshot Session Works

Book a Headshot Session on my calendar.
Come to my easy-to-reach NYC photo studio and have fun being photographed.  You will be bringing two ‘looks’ to the session and we will photograph you in both.
During the session will periodically stop to review your images to help you understand your best angles and to ensure that the images we are capturing are meeting your approval.
At the conclusion of the session you will review your images to select the shots that you would like to purchase.  Select carefully, as all remaining images will be deleted!
Receive a set of professionally-retouched and enhanced photos of your favorite shots delivered via password protected gallery!

About Your Photographer, 

John Ricard

I was born in Brooklyn but my family quickly moved back "home" to Baton Rouge, LA. There I spent my days playing with dogs in the dirt. We moved back to Brooklyn while I was still in elementary school and my adventures took place in my head as I lived in the pages of comic books and science fiction novels.

After graduating from Baruch College many years later, I became a high school English teacher where I spent eight hours each day talking about the world rather than being out in it. And when you think about what an amazing world it is, you want to see and experience all of it. So I left teaching in 2001, so I could live in the real world.
Today, I provide private photo sessions in my studio in Manhattan. Everything is set up in there to capture the perfect photos and I do my best to make my clients feel empowered and confident.

Working with me means you’ll get a set of extremely high-quality photos as well as skills and tips to help you feel more confident in front of the camera -- even when it’s not my own! I love to help people be their best selves and capture shots that represent who they really are.
